AHCA/NCAL Elects Board of Governors, Directors

AHCA/NCAL Updates; Awards and Recognition
WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, the American Health Care Association and National Center for Assisted Living (AHCA/NCAL) elected AHCA’s Board of Governors and NCAL’s Board of Directors for the 2024/2025 term. Phil Scalo of New Jersey was elected for a second term as AHCA Chair, and Mark Maxfield of Idaho was elected for a second term as NCAL Chair.

“Phil and Mark clearly have a passion and vision for long term care and senior living that will serve our profession well as the chairs of our boards,” said AHCA/NCAL President and CEO Clif Porter. “I am grateful to the entire slate of elected leaders as we continue our mission of delivering solutions for quality care for America’s seniors and individuals with disabilities. I look forward to working with them closely, and I send each my congratulations.”

Phil Scalo was elected to his second term as Chair of AHCA’s Board of Governors. Scalo is Founder and Chairman of Bartley Healthcare, a senior care company located in Jackson, New Jersey. Scalo has led Bartley from its inception in 1984 to become one of the most highly awarded senior care companies in New Jersey. Scalo has also served as a consultant for long term care and assisted living operations, financing, and project development.

NCAL also elected its Board of Directors today, and current Board Chair Mark Maxfield was elected for a second term. Maxfield is the Owner and CEO of The Cottages, offering assisted living and memory care throughout Idaho. He has been involved in the assisted living profession since 2001 and has served on the board for the Idaho Health Care Association and the Community Care Advisory Council.

Members of the AHCA Board of Governors are elected by the association’s governing body, the Council of States. The NCAL Board of Directors is elected by current members of the NCAL Board and by the NCAL State Leaders. Both boards held its elections virtually following the forced cancellation of Delivering Solutions 24, the 75th annual AHCA/NCAL Convention & Expo due to Hurricane Milton.
