New Provider Reports Now Available from the LTC Data Cooperative

Quality; Research and Data; Long Term Care

One of the four key purposes of the LTC Data Cooperative is to make data available for improving health care operations and population health. One of the ways we do that is by delivering facility-level reports on key metrics calculated from electronic health record (EHR) data back to participating organizations, along with organization- and group-level benchmarks.

The LTC Data Cooperative assembles EHR data from major long-term care EHR vendors on behalf of providers. It is governed by AHCA/NCAL and supported by the National Institute on Aging (NIA), in collaboration with Brown University and a data science firm and aims to improve public health surveillance and facilitate research in addition to enhancing health care operations.

By accessing provider reports, providers participating in the LTC Data Cooperative can:
  • Review facility-level data on (a) hospitalization trends, and (b) residents with a schizophrenia diagnosis, for dates as recent as December 2023 and in some cases going as far back as January 2019.
  • See their organization's aggregate metrics (if applicable).
  • Receive the group metric averages for all facilities participating in the LTC Data Cooperative for comparison.
  • Understand hospitalization patterns by day of the week across a full quarter of data.
  • Use reports to determine if any facilities' data suggest further investigation or recognition.
  • Download and share the reports with their personnel as they see fit.
Additional Topics for Provider Reports Under Development
EHR data is a rich source for generating new metrics and comparisons, and the development of reports is just starting up. The provider reports are not just about helping providers improve; they also allow organizations to identify and recognize high performers. Ultimately, our hope is that the reports prove to be a crucial tool in improving the landscape of long-term care.
