Guidance for Nursing Home Residents with Acute Respiratory Illness Symptoms Amidst COVID and Flu Viruses

COVID-19; Skilled Nursing Facilities (SNF)

The CDC has updated the guidance on the CDC Flu Web page to reflect new guidance on placement and testing. Highlights include:

  1. Residents with SARS-CoV-2 and influenza virus co-infection should be placed in a single room or housed with other co-infected residents.
  2. A negative antigen in symptomatic persons must be confirmed by either a negative result from NAAT or a second negative antigen test collected 48 hours after the first negative test.

All of the updates are available to view on the CDC website

The testing guidance can be adapted for use in Assisted Living communities.
