This session will focus on nutrition issues specific to dementia, including nutrients and food components to support cognitive health, dementia dining issues, and evidence-based sensory techniques for enhancing wellness at mealtimes. Newly developed programming addressing the multi-sensory nature of eating and the dining environment can enhance mealtimes for those with dementia.
Learning objectives include:
- Be able to describe the need to consume a nutritious diet for those living with dementia and consequences of low intake.
- List three foods/ food components/ nutrients shown to improve cognitive health, boost mood, and support physical health in older adults with dementia.
- Understand the evidenced-based, sensory techniques in offering an effective wellness dining program based on the Dementia Connection Model©.
