The Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) last year issued a
final rule updating payment rates and policies under the End-Stage Renal Disease (ESRD) Prospective Payment System (PPS) for renal dialysis services furnished to Medicare beneficiaries on or after January 1, 2025. After many years of delay, oral renal dialysis drugs are now included in the ESRD PPS bundled payment. This includes oral phosphate binders, which are given multiple times per day before meals.
We have received many questions about the final rule and the impact on long term care facilities. To assist members, AHCA has developed
an information sheet outlining the specific impact and other important questions.
