U.S. Senators Marsha Blackburn (R-Tenn.), Peter Welch (D-VT), and Angus King (I-Maine) and U.S. Representatives Tracy Mann (R-Kan.) and Joe Neguse (D-Colo.) recently introduced bipartisan legislation that would improve the current licensing process for health care providers and increase the number of licensed providers able to serve communities across state lines.
More specifically, the SHARE Act:
- Authorizes the FBI to share criminal history record information between states for licensure purposes.
- Extends the reach of health care professionals, eliminating the time necessary for state-to-state checks, improving access to medical specialists, and leveraging the use of new medical technologies like telehealth.
- The legislation ensures criminal history record information is maintained in the same manner as requests for all occupational licenses handled at the state level.
AHCA/NCAL endorsed this bill last Congress and does so again this Congress. More information on this bill, including the legislative language is
