WASHINGTON, D.C. – The American Health Care Association and National Center for Assisted Living (AHCA/NCAL), representing more than 14,000 nursing homes and assisted living communities across the country that provide care to approximately five million people each year, announced today the launch of “Careers in Caring”, a national campaign to educate job seekers about the career opportunities in long term care and equip nursing homes, assisted living communities and facilities for individuals with intellectual and development disabilities with the resources they need to successfully recruit new caregivers to the field.

According to Indeed.com, there are more than 133,000 current job openings in nursing homes.

“The long term care industry has been facing workforce shortages for decades– a challenge that has only magnified since the pandemic,” said Mark Parkinson, president and CEO of AHCA/NCAL. “We are launching Careers in Caring to show people why long term care is a rewarding and fulfilling career, and assist long term care providers in recruiting a more robust workforce.”

Careers in Caring has a dedicated website, CareersInCare.org, where long term care providers and professionals can find a one-stop-shop of resources and tools to support their hiring efforts. The campaign is research-tested, with proven practices to reach potential candidates. The website also houses informational videos, messaging materials, social media tools, graphics and much more, to help the long term care profession build a pipeline of dedicated caregivers.

“We know our aging population is growing rapidly, and we need hundreds of thousands of caregivers to meet the rising demand for long term care,” said Parkinson. “Careers in Caring is a proactive first step in ensuring that our seniors today and in the future have a strong workforce in place to provide the high-quality care they need.”
