WASHINGTON, D.C. – With the start of the new year, the American Health Care Association and National Center for Assisted Living (AHCA/NCAL) officially welcomes the LifeSpan Network as its Maryland state affiliate. This change comes as a result of LifeSpan and the Health Facilities Association of Maryland (HFAM) joining forces, which became effective on January 1, 2025, and operating under the LifeSpan name.
“We are thrilled to welcome LifeSpan Network as our new Maryland state affiliate," said Clif Porter, President and CEO of AHCA/NCAL. "With LifeSpan's long-standing dedication to supporting senior care providers and its expanded reach through HFAM, this partnership strengthens our collective voice in advocating for our nation’s seniors. Together, we will continue to advance policies and initiatives that support the seniors and professionals who rely on our sector every day.”
“For decades, LifeSpan and HFAM have been pillars of support for those providing senior care. By coming together, we amplify our strengths and solidify our role as a united, powerful voice in Annapolis and Washington, D.C.,” said Kevin Heffner, President of LifeSpan Network. “This is about more than combining resources; it’s about creating a cohesive force that will champion the needs of providers, staff, and, most importantly, the seniors we serve.”
In December, LifeSpan and HFAM announced the two associations would unite. LifeSpan is the largest and most diverse senior care provider association in the Mid-Atlantic, representing more than 400 senior care providers. Its members include not-for-profit and for-profit organizations providing care and services to seniors across the continuum of care, including independent living, assisted living, skilled nursing, continuing care retirement, subsidized senior housing, and community- and hospital-based programs. By joining forces with HFAM, LifeSpan enhances its ability to advocate for a broad and diverse membership base, ensuring that both the policy and practical needs of providers are addressed at every level of government.
As the AHCA/NCAL Maryland state affiliate, LifeSpan is officially part of the largest association in the United States representing long term and post-acute care providers. AHCA/NCAL is a federation of affiliated state health organizations representing more than 14,000 facilities, including a diverse array of non-profit and proprietary skilled nursing centers, assisted living communities, and homes for individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities.
