The 119th Congress Convenes in January

Advocacy

The 119th Congress is set to convene on Friday, January 3, 2025. The most significant change of the 119th Congress is a Republican-controlled Senate. Republicans flipped four Senate seats in Montana, Ohio, West Virginia and Pennsylvania – giving them a six-seat majority in the Senate with 47 Democrats and 53 Republicans.

The House of Representatives will continue to be controlled by the Republicans, as well, having gained one additional seat. It is currently comprised of 213 Democrats and 219 Republicans, with three seats yet to be called – two leaning Republican and one leaning Democrat. Democrats were able to flip seven seats, and Republicans flipped eight seats allowing them to maintain the majority.

The new Congress consists of 12 new Senators, six from each party, and 61 new Representatives (31 Democrats and 30 Republicans). The first quarter of 2025 will be a great opportunity to invite these new members of Congress to tour your facility or community.
