The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services HHS Office of the Assistant Secretary for Planning and Evaluation (ASPE) recently released a report on the nation’s health care workforce. The report summarizes information about the supply and distribution of several major components of the health care workforce including physicians, nurses, direct care workers, behavioral health workers, and oral health care providers. The report noted that by 2032, jobs providing direct care to assist older adults and people with disabilities will account for nearly one in every six jobs, making it the largest occupational category in the economy. The report also includes a section that discusses the role of provider burnout.
