The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) has released the draft
Minimum Data Set (MDS) 3.0 Resident Assessment Instrument (RAI) User’s Manual. This version contains substantial revisions to include standardized assessment items collected across post-acute care settings to enable cross-setting data collection, outcome comparison, and comparison of quality. Due to the substantial changes, CMS does not plan to issue replacement pages. However, those who wish to continue using a physical copy of the manual are encouraged to print the new version. The final RAI version is expected to be released in August 2023.
CMS also released the final
MDS 3.0 Item Sets version v1.18.11, which are available in the downloads section of the MDS 3.0 RAI Manual
page. These item sets will be effective October 1, 2023.
